Does the lack of shielding affect the use of temperature cables?

Leave a message

Whether the lack of shielding layer of temperature cables affects the use depends mainly on the type of cable and the environment in which it is used.

For PT100 platinum thermal resistors, shielded wires are usually not required. The temperature cable of PT100 platinum thermal resistors generally uses three wires, and the material and length of these three wires are required to be consistent to ensure the accuracy of the measurement. In this case, shielded wires are not necessary.

However, for other types of temperature cables, the role of the shielding layer is mainly to reduce electromagnetic interference. The shielding layer can prevent the electromagnetic field from interfering with the internal signal of the cable and protect the stability of the signal. If the cable is in an environment with a strong electromagnetic field, the absence of a shielding layer may cause signal interference and affect the accuracy of the measurement.

The role of the shielding layer
Reduce electromagnetic interference: The shielding layer can effectively reduce the interference of external electromagnetic fields on the internal signal of the cable and protect the stability of the signal.
Prevent surge damage: During lightning or electrostatic discharge, the shielding layer can prevent surge damage to the internal equipment of the cable.
Common mode impedance: The shielding layer can also reduce the common mode impedance on the power grid and protect equipment such as communication cards from damage.
Differences in requirements for different types of temperature cables
PT100 platinum thermal resistor: Usually no shielding wire is required, and the material and length of the three wires are required to be consistent.
Thermocouple temperature sensor: Compensation wire is required, and shielding wire is usually required to reduce measurement errors.
